What is a modular home, and why should I choose modular over traditional stud construction?

A modular home is constructed in sections in a controlled factory environment. These modules, encompassing everything from walls and floors to plumbing and electrical systems, are then transported to the building site and "craned" onto a permanent foundation. At Dennys River Carpentry, this foundation is either a full basement foundation or a crawl space with a slab.

Why should I choose modular?

1. Speed and Efficiency: Time is a precious commodity, and modular construction significantly reduces the building timeline from 12-18 months for traditional site built structures to 2-3 months from site work and form setting to completion. By manufacturing modules in a controlled factory setting, weather delays and on-site disruptions are minimized. This translates to a faster move-in date, allowing you to enjoy your new home sooner.

2. Predictability and Reliability: With modular construction, you have a clear understanding of the project timeline and budget from the outset. This predictability eliminates many of the uncertainties and potential cost overruns associated with traditional stick-built homes.

3. Quality Control: The controlled environment of a factory allows for meticulous quality control. Each module is built to exacting standards, ensuring consistency and precision that can be challenging to achieve on a traditional construction site. This translates to a more comfortable and energy efficient home.

4. Energy Efficiency: Modern modular homes are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Factory construction allows for tighter seals and better insulation, resulting in lower utility bills and a more sustainable home.

5. Reduced Environmental Impact: The controlled factory setting minimizes construction waste and reduces the environmental impact associated with on-site building.

If you're in the market for a new home, modular construction can offer you serious advantages over traditional construction: predictability and consistency during the build process, energy efficiency, and peace of mind.
